Job Description

Department: Center for Student Success and Coaching Campus: Brookville, New York Basic Function and Scope of Responsibilities: The Success Coach will be a student's primary point of contact for everything at the University-from academic advisement and campus involvement to financial aid counseling and career development. The coach will help students chart and navigate an individual path within the LIU community. Working one-on-one with students, the Success Coach will create a success plan tailored to each student's needs, goals, and interests. This plan will assist students in choosing courses, selecting a major, finding scholarships, internships, and study abroad opportunities, and launching their careers. Success Coaches will keep students on track toward graduation and help ensure a seamless transition from college student to successful professional. Reporting to an Associate Director, the Success Coach may specialize in and execute functions in the following areas: First & Second Year Student Success, Third & Fourth Year Student Success, Graduate & International Student Success, Residence Life, and Campus Life. Ancillary duties will include financial aid packaging, awarding/posting of aid, and other related tasks. Principal Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the primary advisor for a caseload of students, providing individualized guidance and support.
  • Facilitate students' transition to the university, ensuring students are integrated into the intellectual,
cultural, and social life of the institution. • Assist with pre-enrollment activities, admissions, orientation, campus events, and career initiatives, reinforcing the importance of a holistic, integrated college experience aimed at academic and career success. • Provide academic advisement, guiding students from initial registration through major/degree selection, aligning their academic choices with career interests and goals. • Assist students with registration inquiries and processes, including add/drop procedures, graduation information, and general student application questions. • Offer career counseling and resources to help students develop a career path aligned with their academic pursuits. • Participate in presenting financial aid workshops, orientation activities, open houses, and other departmental and student events as needed. • Deliver excellent customer service by supporting the regular coverage of the deaprtment phone queue, answering questions related to financial aid and enrollment processes for students and their families. • Assist in evaluating transfer credits for courses taken at postsecondary institutions, considering the educational quality of the learning experience. • Support financial aid functions in alignment with the guidelines set by the New York State Financial Aid Administrators Association (NYSFAAA). • Collaborate with counterparts on other campuses to ensure consistent operations and a uniform student experience across the LIU system. • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Directors/Directors of Financial Aid Ancillary Duties: • Maintain knowledge of federal and state financial regulations, as well as university financial policies and procedures. • Assist students in understanding financial aid processes and help outline a plan for financing their education, including personal finances, student loans, government grants, and private scholarships. • Support the collection and processing of required documents for all students. Education Requirements: Bachelor's degree required. Master's preferred. Training, Skills, Knowledge, Experience:
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Working Conditions: • At least 1-3 years of progressively responsible professional experience in higher education, enrollment services, student affairs, or academic affairs; sound judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Occasional travel to/from other LIU campuses for the facilitation of training sessions, meetings, and
