Position Summary Apply by 6/6/25 for first review. Position Schedule: Flexible 9/80 schedule (employees work 80 hours over a two-week period of nine working days) OR Sunday 6:00am-10:00am and Monday - Thursday 6:00am-3:30pm
This position performs a variety of basic duties related to the installation, inspection, maintenance, repair, and servicing of municipal parks, grounds, facilities, right-of-ways, and infrastructures. This is an entry level position in the maintenance worker job series. Positions in this class perform a variety of routine maintenance activities and assist with repair, construction or preventive maintenance. The position usually works on a crew with supervision or guidance readily available, and the incumbents' work is reviewed frequently.
This class differs from the Maintenance Worker II job class in that the latter class performs journey-level maintenance work requiring more technical knowledge and may provide direction and training to Maintenance Worker I positions.

- Installs, inspects, maintains, repairs, and services municipal utilities, facilities or equipment as assigned.
- Assists senior employees with operation of maintenance equipment, such as weed eaters, hedge trimmers, back pack blower, and various hand and power tools.
- Assists with traffic control situations including flagging and work zone setup for protection of crews and equipment at the jobsite.
- May be assigned to other divisions performing work requiring similar skills during times of peak work load, labor shortage, emergency situations, or other instances when critical work is to be completed.
- Accepts guidance, direction, and feedback from others.
- Prepares facilities for routine use and special events; performs routine facility, grounds and landscape maintenance including painting, mowing (not to exceed 60-inch mower), and cultural practices; assists in preventive maintenance duties.
- Assists senior employees in the construction, installation, maintenance, and renovation of park and recreational facilities, including parks, buildings, and related systems such as indoor/outdoor plumbing, irrigation, drainage, and wiring.
- Assists with monitoring security requirements for park facilities, grounds, and work sites to ensure security and safety of people, equipment, and materials.
Qualifications A combination of the experience, education, and training listed below which provides an equivalent background to perform the work of this position.
Experience: - One year of experience performing a variety of the essential duties or a related position in parks, grounds, facilities, streets, or municipal utilities maintenance or construction.
Education and Training: - High school diploma or GED.
Licenses or Certificates: - Must possess, or have the ability to possess within one month of hire date, a Washington State Driver's License.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, first aid and CPR certifications.
- Must possess, or have the ability to possess within six months of hire date, flagger certification.

While performing the essential functions of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; kneel, bend, or climb and to use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; and talk or hear. The employee must be able to lift up to 25 pounds on a frequent basis; lift up to 50 pounds on an occasional basis; and lift and/or move between 50 - 100 pounds with assistance. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
This position regularly works outside in various weather conditions. The employee frequently works near moving mechanical parts and is frequently exposed to vibration. The employee may be exposed to physical hazards from mechanical and electrical equipment and may work in hazardous areas under hazardous conditions. The employee occasionally works in traffic, near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals. The employee occasionally may be at risk from electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
This position works a regular schedule however the employee may be called to work at irregular times in emergency situations.
