The Role

As a Forensic Accountant, you will utilize your expertise in forensic accounting and litigation support to assist legal teams with complex financial disputes and fraud investigations. Working on a freelance, case-by-case basis, you’ll conduct thorough financial analysis, prepare impartial reports, and deliver expert testimony in court, ensuring that your insights bring clarity and support to legal proceedings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct detailed forensic financial analyses, including investigating financial records, transactions, and reports to uncover discrepancies or evidence of fraud.
  • Prepare evidence-based, objective reports to assist legal teams in understanding financial irregularities, damages, and valuations.
  • Provide expert witness testimony in court or arbitration settings, presenting findings in a clear, professional manner.
  • Work closely with legal teams to translate complex financial data into understandable terms for judges, juries, and other non-specialist audiences.
  • Stay current with forensic accounting standards, regulatory changes, and best practices to maintain credibility and reliability in legal settings.

Key Areas of Focus

  • Identify financial fraud, irregularities, and misappropriations by analyzing detailed accounting records and transaction histories.
  • Calculate and analyze financial damages, lost profits, and valuations to support claims or defenses in financial disputes.
  • Assess contract compliance, identify financial breaches, and interpret the financial implications of contract terms.
  • Provide objective assessments of risk exposure, liability, and financial impact in complex disputes.
  • Deliver clear, well-supported expert testimony in court, providing professional insights that withstand rigorous cross-examination.

Qualifications

  • Chartered or certified forensic accounting credentials, with strong expertise in financial analysis, fraud detection, and litigation support.
  • Experience as an expert witness or forensic consultant, capable of delivering precise, unbiased assessments and testimony.
  • In-depth understanding of legal requirements and financial regulatory standards relevant to forensic accounting in the UK.
