POSITION: English Language Teacher
START DATE/CALENDAR : February 1, 2025 / Per 2024-25 School Calendar
SALARY/BENEFITS: As outlined in KHEA Master labor agreement
QUALIFICATIONS :
- Must hold a valid State of Michigan teaching certificate with English as a Second Language (NS) endorsement.
- Fluency in Spanish and English in both speaking and writing required.
- High level of understanding about personalized learning and ability to instruct students effectively in small groups.
- Required knowledge of skills and abilities related to diversity, equity, and cultural competence.
- Knowledge of own competence in the area of diversity and equity, how this influences own behavior and a desire to learn about others identities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: - Promote a personalized approach to education, including advancing supportive strategies such as flipped classrooms, student-led assignments and assessments, portfolio development, student voice and choice, small groups, differentiated instruction, etc.
- Must be a collaborative team member with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to prepare and implement lesson plans containing best practices to improve language acquisition skills of our EL students.
- Collaborate with other professional staff to enhance instruction and adapt and modify curriculum in order to meet individual student needs, as well as determine if supporting students is best done through inclusion or through pulling students in small groups.
- Participate in the development and revision of goals and performance objectives for students, course content and learning activities, evaluate procedures and instructional materials.
- Administer district and state assessments in a large or small group setting.
- Establish and enforce classroom management procedures consistent with building and district protocol.
- Observe and evaluate student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health and report to parents as needed and required.
- Prepare materials and classroom for class activities.
- Utilize a multi-tiered system of support, as well as adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet students' varying needs and interests.
- Plan and conduct activities for a balanced program of instruction, demonstration, and work time that provides students with opportunities to observe, question and investigate.
- Create standard operating procedures that promote student agency and foster a collaborative learning environment over multiple grade levels.
- Use a variety of media and methods in order to motivate students and best utilize available time for instruction.
- Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate those objectives to the students.
- Assign and grade classwork and homework, adhering to building and district protocols.
- Prepare, administer and grade tests and assignments to evaluate students' progress.
- Ability to supervise and provide direction to bilingual paraprofessionals.
- Keep attendance and academic records as required by the district.
