SUMMARY: The focus of this position is to increase student achievement and ensure best practices are implemented across all dual language classrooms through the support and development of self-directed, reflective teachers. This includes working with adult learners to contribute to a collegial learning culture, collaboratively implement school and district improvement initiatives, support the analysis of data for instructional adjustments, and work to ensure systemic implementation of best instructional practices. Collaboration with school-based administration, site-based CLDE teachers and the Jeffco Department of Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education is essential to ensure cohesive and systemic alignment to the Jeffco dual language program guidance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following.

Develop dual language staff understanding of dual language instructional practices and language development strategies in alignment with the Guiding Principles for Dual Language Education and the Jeffco Dual Language program goals.

Support dual language teachers? implementation of explicit and systematic grade-level dual language instruction including the implementation of core, supplemental, and intervention instruction based on grade-level standards and student academic and linguistic needs.

Build capacity of dual language teachers and support staff through coaching, modeling, co-planning, and co-teaching to ensure that all students are demonstrating growth and reaching grade level proficiency in both Spanish and English.

Ensure language acquisition instructional strategies are embedded in the planning and implementation of grade-level instruction in dual language classrooms.

Develop and facilitate family engagement opportunities in collaboration with school staff.

Build school staff capacity to manage PK and K-12 dual language program enrollment, screening, and placement.

Inform families of the dual language program goals.

Ensure all school staff are utilizing Translation and Interpretation Services including OPI or other platforms to support families? equitable engagement in conversations and participation in the school community.

Participate in and lead building level professional development, ensuring that multilingual learners are centered by all staff and that dual language programming is equitably honored and elevated.

Provide modeling of and explicit instruction for culturally responsive practices, critical consciousness, and productive mindsets for equitable teaching.

Actively engage in all CLDE department dual language instructional coach and Dual Language Leadership professional learning and plan/facilitate central dual language teacher professional learning.

Collaborate with school staff and special service providers around the needs of MLs in the MTSS process, during the creation, evaluation, implementation, and updates of IEPs and 504 plans and in the identification process for Gifted and Talented to ensure student supports are congruent with the student?s language background and proficiency.

Build dual language teacher capacity to analyze district, state, and classroom assessment data (including student work) to inform instructional decisions and to design differentiated instruction for all students.

Analyze student data to progress monitor student learning, resource implementation, educator effectiveness and to inform systems change in support of multilingual learners.

Attend annual training sessions and lead the process of accurately identifying, assessing, enrolling, placing, and monitoring MLs enrolled in dual language programming in collaboration with the CLDE Teacher.

Support dual language educators in the development and progress monitoring of READ Plans for students enrolled in dual language programming.

EXPERIENCE Must be bilingual and biliterate. Minimum five years of successful dual language classroom teaching experience or experience teaching K-6 multilingual learners. Demonstrated experience in classroom implementation of best practices in instructional strategies in a Spanish environment. Success in working with adult learners. Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to consult with and facilitate groups. Evidenced use and knowledge of standards-based curriculum and instruction, dual language best practices, and experience with PLC structure and data-driven instruction. Strong collaboration skills and experience working with adult learners. Experience with newcomer populations preferred.

EDUCATION AND TRAINING Required Bachelor?s Degree in the field of education . Master?s degree preferred.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, OR REGISTRATIONS A current Colorado teaching license with Colorado state endorsement in K-12 Linguistically Diverse Education, K-12 CLDE or K-12 Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Bilingual Education.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES Completion of professional development hours in foundational literacy skills and the science of reading; knowledge of sheltered instruction techniques; bilingual and biliteracy instructional practices; and language acquisition strategies. Commitment to ensuring student access to grade-level content standards and language development standards utilizing language acquisition theory and evidence-based practices. Knowledge and experience with coaching, modeling-planning and co-teaching. Ability to support dual language educators with data-driven instruction, goal-setting, and progress monitoring, and differentiation strategies. Ability to demonstrate a belief that all children can learn at grade level through differentiated core instruction with clarity of language demands and academic expectations. Ability to collaborate with classified staff, instructional coaches, ESL teachers, administrators and CLDE Department staff. Demonstrated ability to utilize formative an summative assessment data to plan for instruction and student supports. Demonstrated commitment to teamwork in establishing meeting student achievement goals, school goals, and professional development goals through team planning, and active participation in professional learning opportunities.
